Sales of egg cups, egg poachers and omelette pans could be on the up this year, as eggs are predicted to be the only food market that will see double-digit growth in 2009.

The finding comes as part of a major re-forecasting project undertaken by market analyst Mintel, which takes into account the dramatic change in consumers’ expectations, attitudes and beliefs over the past six months.
Mintel says egg sales will rise as consumers become increasingly aware of their health benefits, and as they seek to make meals from scratch to save money.
However, a “treating” culture is forecast to continue, with sales of chocolate – a low-cost, soothing comfort purchase – predicted to rise 7% in 2009.
