Espresso coffee makers are driving growth in the hot beverage makers market, whose value has hit an all-time high.

According to account manager with GfK, Andrew Walsh, the hot beverage maker sector recently achieved a major landmark in the kitchen appliances category – passing the £50m moving annual total mark (June 2009 to May 2010) for the first time.
Hot beverage makers are now only the fifth product group to pass the £50m post, after kettles, irons, toasters and food preparation appliances.
The market even repeated the trick for the most recent MAT – July 2009 to June 2010 – surpassing the previous month’s total by over £500,000.
GfK says the driving force in the category is the continued penetration of espresso machines, which have grown by 23% over last year and represent 64% of the total category value.
Within espressos, portioned and full automatic machines are the major areas in value growth. They account for 86% of espresso market value, up from 80% last year, representing growth of 31% from £21.3m to £27.9m.
