Ex-Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies helps open new Dixons Carphone 3-in-1 mega store

Electrical retailer Dixons Carphone will launch a new mega store in Plymouth tomorrow (Friday, July 29), bringing all three of its brands – Currys, PC World and Carphone Warehouse – under one roof.

On hand to help celebrate the opening will be ex-Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies MBE, who will participate in an exclusive ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday (July 30) at 9.30am.

Plymouth-born Sharron set a record by swimming for the British national team at the age of 11. She then went on to represent Great Britain in the 1976, 1980, and 1992 Olympic Games and by the time she had officially retired from swimming, was known as a 20-time British champion. She was awarded an MBE by the Queen for her services to the sport in 1993 and was twice voted Sportswoman of the Year by the British media.

Her appearance is part of a long weekend of tech demonstrations and a four-day exclusive big brand offering, saving customers up to 20% on selected electrical products.

The store at Marsh Mills Retail Park will feature a 32,000sq ft area with a new mezzanine floor, Dyson shop-in-shop, Nespresso bar, Carphone Warehouse shop-in-store, Window and Apple computing dedicated areas. It will also showcase a wider range of products to test first-hand on display.

Carl Frankland, general manager of the Plymouth megastore, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have acclaimed sportswoman Sharron Davies help celebrate the opening of our new bigger and better megastore this Saturday. It’s set to be an exciting weekend ahead, with plenty of offers to enjoy.”
