Home sales slide 5% at John Lewis

Total sales at John Lewis for last week (to Saturday September 30) were £86.3 million: down 1.9% on last year.

According to online trade director Mark Felix, Home sales were down 5.1%. However, he added, “the newly opened Christmas Villages performed strongly and Halloween products were up 24% on last year”.

The department store group has introduced Christmas Villages into a total of 11 locations, which aim to ‘bring together everything you could wish for when preparing for Christmas’.

Electricals and Home Technology sales were up 1.4%, driven by strong sales in communication technology. Mark said Apple products including Macbooks and iPads performed well and positive sales continued within accessories. Elsewhere, the new GoPro 6 enjoyed a strong first week, helping drive sales of action cameras.

Fashion sales were down 1.8% but Autumn/Winter clothing performed well, along with Beauty (up 7%) and Fragrance (up 14.2%).
