Housewares outperform at The Direct Company

The cookshop and housewares sectors were the star performers in the first half of The Direct Company’s year.

The central buying and invoicing subsidiary company of BHF Group enjoyed a 14% increase in sales for the first six months of 2007. Every month chalked up record turnover, “with particularly strong growth coming from the cookshop and housewares sector,” according to managing director Paul Woolley.

Even the notably wet July produced an increase of over 17% on the same period in 2006.

Woolley went on: “Although retailers are generally not experiencing this same level of growth, our members are more actively looking for the best deal and are finding it within the expanding raft of offers from preferred suppliers, with over 200 manufacturers selling across the group’s major retail divisions.”
