Jamie Oliver stays at number one in book chart

At number one is ‘Jamie’s Comfort Food’ by Jamie Oliver, with total sales to date of 64,369 copies. The TV chef’s latest cookbook brings together 100 ‘comfort food’ recipes. It features his versions of all-time favourites, and also introduces dishes from countries around the world. Recipe examples include moussaka, gyoza with crispy wings, steaming ramen and katsu curry, eggs Benedict, sticky toffee pudding and tutti frutti pear tarte tatin.

In fourth place is ‘The Great British Bake Off Big Book of Baking’ by Linda Collister, with total sales of 36,695. Inspired by BBC1 series ‘The Great British Bake Off’, this cookbook offers 120 original recipes, including contributions from the show’s judges – Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood – and contestants. Each chapter transports the reader on set and features the best recipes from ‘challenges’ including Mary and Paul’s Signature Bakes, Technical Challenges and Showstoppers, plus the best bakers’ recipes from the show.

At number five is ‘Mary Berry Cooks The Perfect’ which includes over 100 new recipes from the cuisine queen and co-host of ‘The Great British Bake Off’. Some are tried-and-tested favourites given a twist; others contain a selection of new ingredients or flavour combinations. All feature ‘Keys to Perfection’; for each recipe, Mary shares her techniques and identifies the crucial part to get right to guarantee best results, and then demonstrates it with step-by-step instructions. For instance, she reveals the secret to crisp pork crackling, how to bake a feather-light cake and the key to a-crunchy crumble topping.

‘Plenty More’ by restaurant owner Yotam Ottolenghi is in eighth position. The focus of this cookbook is on 120 vegetable-based dishes, organised by cooking method (grilled, baked, simmered, cracked, braised or raw). The recipes include alphonso mango and curried chickpea salad; membrillo and stilton quiche; buttermilk-crusted okra, lentils, radicchio and walnuts with manuka honey; seaweed, ginger and carrot salad; and desserts such as baked rhubarb with sweet labneh and quince poached in pomegranate juice.

At number 10 is ‘A Taste of the Sun: Gino’s Italian Escape’ by Gino D’Acampo. The follow-up to the bestselling ‘Gino’s Italian Escape’, this cookbook by the Italian chef accompanies the second series of his TV programme. It features over 100 recipes including a Venetian Aperol Spritz, T-bone steak from Florence, Piedmont-style pizza and Chocolate Panforte from Siena.

The bestsellers list is compiled by Nielsen Bookscan TCM, which collates real time sales from over 6,500 retailers representing over 90% of the UK book market. It appeared in the October 5 issue of ‘The Mail on Sunday’s’ ‘Event’ Magazine.
