John Lewis has announced today (Thursday April 12) that its new department store in Cheltenham will open on October 18.
The retailer is investing £23 million in the 115,000sq ft branch in Gloucestershire, which will offer home and technology products along with fashion and services.
Cheltenham will be the 51st shop to join the John Lewis estate and will be run by long-standing staff member Martin Bundy, who has worked for the company for more than 18 years.
He joined as a shop floor assistant at the retailer’s Southsea department store and has held senior roles in several branches including Southampton, Bluewater, Newbury and Chichester. During his career he has also held various project and branch development roles in the company’s head office.
Commenting on his new post, Martin said: “I’m very proud to be given this great opportunity and excited to show the people of Cheltenham our new shop. Before we open we have a lot to do. As well as getting the shop ready, we will recruit and train hundreds of new Partners [staff] ready to deliver outstanding customer service.”
