With BBC2 TV series ‘The Great British Bake Off’ inspiring the nation to pull on their pinnies, John Lewis has revealed its top 10 baking accessories based on current year-on-year sales figures.
The department store group’s assistant buyer for cookshop Rebecca Fletcher said: “With ‘The Great British Bake Off’ effect really taking off, we’re seeing strong sales in all areas of baking at John Lewis, as customers aspire to become a star baker at home, from small essentials like measuring cups and spoons through to big ticket items like stand mixers.”
Here is her list and comments:
Number 1: “A must have for all bakers, sales of measuring cups and spoons are +167%”
Number 2: “Essential baking tools’ such as palette knives and spatulas are +77%”
Number 3: “With more people choosing to make their own jam’ preserving is +74%”
Number 4: “The humble rolling pin is a firm favourite with sales +68%”
Number 5: “Joint position held by mixing bowls +60% and cake servers +60%”
Number 6: “Show-stopping stand mixers secure a position with sales +58%”
Number 7: “Inspired by professional kitchens, blowtorches are +37% – ideal for finishing off meringues and crème brûlées”
Number 8: “Multitasking food processors, which are a great time-saver for sweet and savoury bakes are +32%”
