John Lewis reports ‘eye-catching growth’ for Home sales

Total sales last week (to July 26) for John Lewis were up 9%, in line with its cumulative performance, leaving the department store group 9% up for the half.

John Lewis director, buying and brand Paula Nickolds said: “This is a fantastic achievement and provides a superb platform as we look ahead to the rest of the year.”

Shops performed well in the week, with High Wycombe leading the way with sales up 27%, and At Home stores up 33%. Online achieved growth of 29% and ended 26% up for the half, with a good balance across product categories.

The week saw Home continue to drive eye-catching growth at +13%, with furniture the star performer at +22%. In electricals and home technology (EHT) products, weekly sales moved forward 4%, helped by large and small electricals. Both achieved growth above 20%, with the latter seeing particularly hot demand for fans. For the half, EHT drove the strongest growth of the directorates at +12%.
