Department store group John Lewis posted a 2.5% increase in sales last week (to February 6).
Liz Mihell, head of selling for John Lewis At Home, commented: “Whilst the shops were down overall, there were welcome highlights from a number of ‘new format’ branches with Heathrow, Tunbridge Wells, Poole, York and Ipswich all making particularly good headway.”
The strongest directorate trade came from EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) with sales up 5.4%. White goods and vision performed particularly well and the retailer’s three year guarantee on Apple products was also popular with customers.
In Home, sales were down 1.9% on the year, with furniture sales quieter after a strong run during Clearance.
