John Lewis weekly sales up 3.8%

John Lewis buying director, home Christine Kasoulis described last week (to February 27) as a “fair week for sales” for the department store group, with trading up 3.8% against last year.

Home was up 4.8% year-on-year, with furniture the top performer at +11.2%.

EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) finished the week up 6.3%, with particularly strong results for electricals at +7.2%, driven by large electricals at +14%.

Fashion finished the week up 0.9% year-on-year, with handbags and women’s accessories strong as part of price-matching a competitor’s activity.
