Julia Child’s French home with custom kitchen is for sale

Julia Child’s vacation home in France, with a replica of her kitchen that is in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History, is for sale.

The American chef, author, and television personality (played by actress Meryl Streep in the 2009 Hollywood film  ‘Julie & Julia’) is famous for introducing French cuisine and cooking techniques to the American public through her cookbooks and television programmes.

Julia’s cottage in the hills above the Côte d’Azur, where she and her husband spent part of each year, is now on the market for the first time, priced at € 800,000.

The setting is on a half acre of land on a hillside outside the small Provençal village of Plascassier, close to the town of Grasse and about a half-hour’s drive from the city of Cannes and the Côte d’Azur.

The 1,614sq ft cottage has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and open floor plan living and dining. The kitchen is a smaller replica of her kitchen in her home in the Massachusetts city of Cambridge, which is now in the Smithsonian.

The listing agent is Peter Illovsky of Côte d’Azur Sotheby’s International Realty in Cannes, France.
