According to the department store group’s cookshop buyer Chris Gardner: “The range has been selling like hot cakes. It is perfect for budding Paul Hollywoods who don’t have time to make elaborate cakes.”

Produced by Spanish company Lekue, and distributed in the UK by JWP, the ‘MinuteCake’ platinum silicone mould retails at £22 for a set of four. Lekue claims it can be used to make chocolate cake, lemon mousse, apple crumble and even panna cotta.

To make One Minute Chocolate Cake, for example, the user cuts up the chocolate into pieces and, in a microwave-safe bowls, melts it with butter inside the microwave for two minutes.

In another bowl, the user whisks eggs and sugar, then adds the chocolate mixture and mixes well. Finally, flour is added and mixed.

Then the four MinuteCakes are filled, and a chocolate piece put in the middle of each one. Each MinuteCake is then baked in the microwave for one minute.
