Morleys Stores has confirmed that Jolly’s Bath will reopen in March 2027 following a major restoration and redevelopment programme at one of the UK’s most historic department stores.

The landmark building, parts of which date back more than 250 years, has undergone extensive conservation and modernisation works aimed at transforming the site into a contemporary department store while preserving its historic character.

Morleys said the complex redevelopment has involved close collaboration with Bath & North East Somerset Council, heritage specialists, local stakeholders and construction teams to carefully manage the challenges of restoring a building of significant historic importance.1779120869748 Morleys confirms March 2027 reopening for historic Jolly’s Bath store

The project has included the preservation of original architectural features alongside substantial infrastructure upgrades within the centuries-old property.

Ray Clacher, CEO of Morleys Stores, said: “Working within a series of interconnected buildings that have evolved over more than two and a half centuries has been both inspiring and incredibly complex.

“Every stage of the project has presented opportunities to protect and celebrate the history of Jolly’s while ensuring we create the very best department store possible for the residents of Bath and visitors to the city.

“We know how much affection people hold for Jolly’s, and that has driven our ambition from the very beginning. Our goal is not simply to reopen the store, but to create a vibrant, welcoming destination that Bath can be proud of for many years to come.”

Councillor Mark Elliott, cabinet member for Resources at Bath & North East Somerset Council, described the investment as “a strong vote of confidence in Bath’s economy”.

He added: “The store itself is a really complex building and restoring it to its full potential takes vision and time – we look forward to welcoming Morleys’ new store early next year. It will be a fantastic addition to Milsom Street and our ambitions for the Milsom Quarter.”
