Oxford Summer School inspires delegates

More than 90 delegates from the retail sector attended The Oxford Summer School Foundation programme, held from July 1 – 5 at St. Catherine’s College in Oxford.

Attendees ranged from first appointment store managers and head office department managers to large store department managers and supervisors. They represented businesses of all sizes and types, from small independents to large multiple department stores such as John Lewis and Marks and Spencer.

The aim of the programme is for delegates to develop knowledge, learn new skills, network with others, share best practice, and hear from respected industry professionals.

Speakers included Darren Blackhurst, CEO of Matalan, Jane Leadbetter, Interim L&D Manager of McArthurGlen Group and Jo Walker, MD of The Perfume Shop.

On closing, one delegate commented online that the week had been “an inspiring and life changing experience.”

Oxford Summer School managing director Dominic Prendergast said: “It’s refreshing to see that our efforts are making such a dramatic impact on the careers of so many retailers. This is especially uplifting due to it only being the second year of the Foundation programme,”

Next month, the Oxford Summer School Academy take place on August 17 – 23 at Keble College in Oxford. The line-up of guest speakers for this event includes Justin King, CEO of Sainsbury’s; Laura Wade-Gery, Executive Director of Multi-channel E-Commerce at Marks & Spencer; and Mark Price, MD of Waitrose.
