Poundland appoints its first ever wedding planner

With the nuptials season in full swing, Poundland launched a wedding range last week which is being rolled out across the UK.

The high street discount chain’s new collection includes a wedding planner book, bunting, wedding invitation packs, place card packs, faux flower bouquets, tea light holders and crystal scatter gems for table settings and even Mr and Mrs Travel tags for honeymoon luggage – all for £1 each.

The group’s trading director Barry Williams said: “Wedding days can end up costing an absolute fortune and because we’re a nation of savvy shoppers which loves a bargain, it’s no surprise that more people are looking to save money on their big day. Our £1 wedding range will help Brits tie the knot in style without the hefty price tag.”

To coincide with the launch, the retailer has also appointed its first ever wedding planner. The role will be filled by Sophie Bladen, who will be providing advice to couples hunting for money-saving techniques.

Speaking about her new role Sophie said: “I’m super excited. I’ll be combining my love for weddings with Poundland’s love for amazing value. Together, we’ll help brides and grooms across the country to have fabulous weddings on a budget.”

Sophie will be holding a live Facebook Q&A to answer questions direct from betrothed couples. Brides and bridegrooms-to-be are also encouraged to write to Sophie’s office at Poundland headquarters in Wolverhampton, with any questions they may have.

Poundland first opened its doors at the Octagon Centre in the Staffordshire town of Burton upon Trent in December 1990. Since then, more than 700 stores have been opened in the UK, and over 50 in the Republic of Ireland. Each branch stocks branded and own-brand products, with the majority retailing at the £1 price point. The assortment includes housewares.
