Poundland has returned to Lakeside Shopping Centre with a new store, marking its first opening in more than two years.

The discount retailer opened the West Thurrock branch on 29 August, returning to the shopping centre more than a decade after its previous location closed as part of a wider downsizing programme.

The new store carries Poundland’s revamped general merchandise range, including an expanded selection of homewares alongside food, clothing and other everyday products.

Among the home and housewares lines available at Lakeside are food storage containers, faux plants and seasonal products, with autumn and Halloween ranges already arriving in store. A new celebration range also includes gift bags, wrapping paper and party accessories.

The Lakeside opening is Poundland’s first new store since August 2024 and comes as the retailer rolls out its updated general merchandise proposition across its UK and Ireland estate.

Barry Williams, managing director of Poundland, said the business was being turned around “at pace”.

“The re-launch of our general merchandise offer is a significant moment, completing the wholesale revamp of our entire offer across FMCG, clothing and now homewares,” he said.

The opening provides another physical retail outlet for Poundland’s growing homewares proposition at one of the UK’s largest shopping centres.

Poundland has not confirmed whether it plans to reopen any other locations from which it has previously withdrawn.
