The Silent Witness star – and self-confessed ‘disaster chef’ – said: “I’ve always been hopeless in the kitchen – my family despair of me! I’ve ruined so many meals over the years it has become a running joke. I welcome receiving any tips from Kenwood to help improve my culinary skills and encourage anyone who is like me, who needs a helping hand, to enter the competition.”

Flailing cooks have until June 29 to enter at the Kenwood website,

www.kenwoodworld.com/uk. The 12 ‘disaster chefs’ will receive a Kenwood Chef Titanium worth £549.99, a camera to capture their progress, plus two month’s training and tips on how to improve cooking skills using step-by-step themed online tutorials from Kenwood. Each week they will also receive a mystery food hamper from Kenwood containing ingredients

The final will take place in the Autumn, when the overall winner will be crowned Kenwood’s Chef by the judges and win a prize package worth over £4,000.

Kenwood marketing director Mark Swift said: “At Kenwood we understand the importance of home cooking and feel well placed to help consumers improve their skills in the kitchen. We are dedicated to providing people with the right equipment and the know-how to produce great food in their own home.”
