On one of the hottest days of the year and in preparation for England’s final group stage match against Belgium in the World Cup tonight (Thursday June 28), Sainsbury’s has revealed details of a barbecue bundle for four for £10.
The ‘bargain BBQ’ is a result of Sainsbury’s price reductions since March across a range of fresh and grocery items (both own-brand and branded).
Items in the barbecue basket compiled by Sainsbury’s include pork sausages, beef burgers, chicken wings, salad, bread rolls and potato salad. The total basket comes to a total of £9.17. Swapping meat products for vegetarian options, such as vegetarian sausages, burgers and kebabs brings the total to £9.27.
The supermarket chain expects sales of burgers to soar by 200% over the coming weekend and sales of ‘summer eating’ products such as kebabs, skewers and chicken wings to surge by 400% as the hot weather continues.
The retailer’s head of meat, fish and poultry Warren Davis commented: “We know our customers love celebrating with a Great British barbecue in the sun – particularly when there’s sport involved! We fully expect millions of people to host BBQ parties to enjoy the game tonight as excitement for ‘football coming home’ gathers pace. At just £2.50 per person, our BBQ food is a great example of the fantastic value shoppers will find when they shop at Sainsbury’s – come rain, shine – win or lose!”
Argos has reported that sales of barbecues rocketed 234% week-on-week in the run-up to last weekend.
