Nearly a quarter of Brits will spend over £500 on Christmas presents this year, according to research by dotcomgiftshop.com.
Of those surveyed by the online gift shop, 70% of respondents had already bought all their gifts by the end of November, with 35% undertaking their Christmas shopping between August and October.
Some 53% spend a week or longer on finding the perfect presents – some presumably to spread the cost and others to ensure they make the perfect purchase at the best price.
Although 44% of those surveyed don’t plan on cutting any corners when it comes to Christmas this year, some are counting the pennies. 28% are bargaining that it’s the thought that counts by making homemade gifts and 13% are having dinner at a relative’s to shave some pounds off the budget.
It also seems that the Christmas card is firmly on the decline in this technology driven age– 62% are sending less than 30 cards.
