Shepherd’s pie is the UK’s favourite winter comfort food, according to new research by Sainsbury’s.

The supermarket’s survey shows that the good old mince-and-mash medley is the dish that Brits most rely on to get them through the long, dark evenings, with 60% of people naming it as their top winter warmer.
In second place came the Italian classic, lasagne – which was also picked as the top comforter by 18 to 35-year-olds.
Chicken curry came in in third position, followed by beef chilli and then chicken and mushroom pie.
