Sheffield-based cutlery company Taylor’s Eye Witness is set to become employee-owned, securing its future as an independent business.

From February 1 2025, ownership of the company, which has been designing and manufacturing kitchen knives, cutlery, and tableware since 1838, will transfer to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). The move aims to protect the business for the benefit of its employees while maintaining its reputation for quality and innovation.

Company Director Alastair Fisher, a member of the founding family, said the transition would ensure the firm continues to grow and thrive.

“The priority is to ensure that Taylor’s Eye Witness can prosper as an independent business while maintaining our reputation for excellence. Our success is built on the dedication of our employees, and this step is about securing that for the long term,” he said.

Mr Fisher and his cousin, fellow Director Chris Inman, will remain in their current roles as sales director and operations director, respectively. Mr Fisher added, “Operationally, very little will change. This is about ensuring that a well-established and respected company continues to thrive while benefiting the people who make it great.”

In addition to producing its own kitchenware range in Sheffield, Taylor’s Eye Witness represents international brands such as Kai, SKK, Veritable Sabatier, and Sabatier Professional in the UK and Ireland. The transition to employee ownership marks a significant step in securing the company’s legacy for future generations.
