Vax staff race to the top for charity

Employees from housewares supplier Vax have raised over £2,500 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, by taking part in the BUPA Great Birmingham Run on October 19.

Vax staff race to the top for charity

The team of runners from the floorcare brand’s sites in Birmingham and Droitwich completed the 13-mile course, cheered on by staff from all parts of the business who gathered to give their support. International product manager Mark Buttin was the fastest Vax runner, recording a time of 1 hour, 31 minutes and 25 seconds – while reporting accountant Danielle Clayton was the fastest woman, completing the race in just 1 hour, 53 minutes and 40 seconds.

Vax transformed its Birmingham city centre HQ into a base for the runners, with refreshments donated by a local café. Donations from friends and family poured in at the JustGiving page and cake bake-off fundraising events were held at both Vax sites in the weeks surrounding the event, helping to boost the total raised to £2,547.32. The money will be used to help fund a new bathroom at the Children’s Hospital’s Complex Care Unit, which looks after children with serious, complex and life-limiting conditions.

Vax managing director David Winterbottom said:”Our runners put on a great performance and achieved some impressive finishing times this year. Everyone at Vax has really pulled together to raise a fantastic amount of money for such a worthwhile cause. The Complex Care Unit provides an invaluable service for children, so we’re very proud to be helping them raise the money they need.”

The Great Birmingham Run is one of a number of regular sporting events that Vax encourages its staff to take part in through its ‘VaxFit’ health and wellness scheme. The scheme helps employees keep fit and healthy through a range of initiatives including subsidised gym membership, free weekly fruit deliveries, a cycle to work scheme, health screening and access to confidential advice and counselling.
