Waitrose appoints new director of e-commerce

Grocery multiple Waitrose has promoted head of strategy Ross Avery to the role of director of e -commerce.

Ross Avery succeeds Robin Philips from the end of November and will be responsible for overseeing the 328-strong supermarket chain’s e-commerce operation, including Waitrose.com, WaitroseCellar.com and WaitrosePet.com.

Ross joined Waitrose in 2001 on the graduate programme and has held several positions throughout the business, including branch manager and head of retail co-ordination. Ross was appointed head of strategy for Waitrose in March 2013.

Waitrose retail director Rob Collins said: “I’m delighted that Ross Avery will become director, e-commerce. Ross is taking up the e-commerce reins at a very important but exciting time for our online business, and it is great that we have been able to draw on our own talent for this important appointment.”
