Waitrose & Partners Cookery Schools are running a series of children’s cookery classes during August to help entertain kids over the summer holidays while teaching them new skills and inspiring a love of food.
Classes tailored to children aged from five to eight and nine to 12 will take place at all three Waitrose & Partners Cookery Schools on London’s Finchley Road and King’s Cross and in the Wiltshire city of Salisbury.
The sessions designed for the younger children focus on creating simple treats including cheese and chive scones with whipped feta, pea and lamb sausage rolls with dukkah topping, and blueberry scone wedges.
For the older children, the aim is to guide them to cook a two-course meal such as Thai style beef salad with mango and papaya, followed by sour cherry and coconut shortbread or asparagus, goat’s cheese & cherry tomato tart with tapenade, followed by strawberry mascarpone cheesecake.
In addition, a class designed for teens is available in Salisbury. The teen session is geared to making an easy feast that can be shared with friends: pulled chicken quesadillas, flour & corn tortillas & guacamole followed by diablo cookies.
Finchley Road will also be holding family cooking classes. There are two family cooking sessions that last four hours each: one focuses on creating a Middle Eastern feast whilst the other focuses on summer Asian recipes.
Waitrose & Partners Cookery Schools chef tutor Sarah Buck commented: “Our children’s cookery classes are packed full of flavour and fun. Recipes can be taken home to try again, keeping the kids occupied and happy – and everyone well fed!”
