In what is billed as a UK supermarket first, Waitrose has launched two sweet vegetable cheesecakes.
The dessert will be available in two flavours of avocado & lime and beetroot & raspberry.
The supermarket chain’s desserts product developer Samantha Cooke said: “At Waitrose, we are always innovating. Although carrot cake has been around for years and Instagram is filled with chocolate cake recipes using beetroot, we’ve not come across vegetables being used more widely in desserts.
“We knew our customers would love this trend, so we decided to start experimenting with ideas. The inclusion of veg gives these cheesecakes a really bright and bold natural colour, as well as a delicious, creamy texture.
“For customers who prefer a dessert that’s not super-sweet, these are the perfect options: in fact they contain 30% less sugar than some other Waitrose cheesecakes.”
Priced at £4 for two portions, the vegetable cheesecake slices went on sale in Waitrose shops yesterday (Wednesday June 20).
