Waitrose serves up drinks magazine

Waitrose has launched a new customer magazine.

‘Waitrose Drinks’ focuses on the retailer’s range of ciders, wines, beers and spirits through news and features.

The magazine also offers readers advice for entertaining, cocktail recipes, and insight from Waitrose’s wine buying team using content from WaitroseCellar.com, the supermarket’s specialist drinks website.

Contributors include TV presenter and wine enthusiast Phillip Schofield who will regularly write about his favourite tipple, Masters of Wine Susie Barrie and Peter Richards, and spirits expert Alice Lascelles.

The magazine’s editor, Joanna Simon, was a wine critic for ‘The Sunday Times’ for 22 years. She has also held the role of

wine and food editor of ‘House & Garden’ magazine and is a co-founder of independent wine guide ‘The Wine Gang’.

She said: “It’s very exciting to be creating a completely new drinks magazine – one that’s covering the whole spectrum of wine, spirits, beer and cider and reaching out to readers with different levels of expertise and interest.”

The first issue of ‘Waitrose Drinks’ is available in branches now, with the second issue following in early November.

The new title builds on the success of Waitrose’s previous twice-yearly drinks catalogues and will join the supermarket’s monthly food magazine ‘Waitrose Food’ and seasonal magazine ‘Waitrose Garden’ as a product-led publication.

Alongside these, Waitrose also produces ‘Waitrose Weekend’, a free newspaper with a weekly circulation of 415,000 distributed in-store; Waitrose TV, the brand’s online content portal. Waitrose also publishes Britain’s best-selling restaurant index ‘The Good Food Guide’.

Waitrose editor in chief Ollie Rice said: “We’re thrilled to be adding ‘Waitrose Drinks’ to our range. The drinks industry is really growing, with exciting products emerging all the time, from craft beer to unusual varieties of gin.

“This magazine will offer readers a new insight into the world of drink and, as with all our other titles, will be packed with ideas and inspiration for relaxing, hosting or celebrating.”
