Waitrose shoppers get set for Halloween

Total sales excluding fuel for Waitrose were flat last week (to Saturday October 27) compared with the same week last year.

The supermarket chain’s retail director Ben Stimson said: “Halloween celebrations were well underway as shoppers looked to decorate their homes, with sales of Halloween flowers up by 44%.

“Customers have also been tucking into Christmas treats early. Sales of mince pies were up 38% and stollen up 22%, and advent calendars had another strong week with sales up 40%.”
