Variety retail chain Wilkinson has confirmed plans to grow its business to become the UK’s largest private retailer by opening a further 200 new stores by 2012.

The family-owned company currently trades from a little over 300 outlets in England and Wales.
Wilkinson pushed sales up in the year to February 2008, from £1.2bn to £1.3bn, and pre-tax profit rose from £48.3m to £50.3m.
The year also saw the company launch its internet and catalogue arm Wilkinson Plus.
