Wilko appoints new retail director

Wilko has announced that Craig McGregor will be joining its senior team as retail director on August 6.

With over 15 years’ senior leadership experience across the UK, US and Europe, Craig has previously held retail director roles at Topshop/Topman, Matalan and, most recently, Specsavers.

He will report into Wilko chief operating officer, Sean Toal.  Commenting on the appointment, Sean said: “We’re thrilled that Craig is joining the team. He’s an experienced and talented retail leader who shares our passion for products that simply help – and we’re looking forward to working with him to ensure customers have a great experience when and where they shop with us.”

Craig added: “Like many people, I’ve been a huge fan of Wilko – and what the business stands for – for some time now. I’m particularly excited to be joining at such a key moment, as the business shapes itself for the future.”

His appointment comes shortly after Wilko revealed that Alex Russo will be joining its senior management team as chief financial officer and executive board director. Alex joins from Asda where he has been chief financial officer and an executive director board member for the last five years.

The family-owned business that has been trading for over 85 years. It operates 418 stores across the UK and online at www.wilko.com.The newest store opened on June 26 at St James Retail Park in Sheffield.

The chain’s key product ranges include homeware and furnishings, garden and outdoor lifestyle products, DIY and decorating and health & beauty. It offers over 14,000 own-brand products, which account for more than 50% of total sales.
