HOUSE set to open fourth store in the UK

HOUSE will open its fourth UK store on Saturday August 4 at intu Chapelfield shopping centre in the Norfolk town of Norwich.

The branch is the fourth opened by the Australian retailer in the UK this year. The first opened at the Westgate shopping centre in Oxford on April 16, coinciding with the launch of www.houseuk.com. This was followed by a store at the Lexicon shopping centre in the Berkshire town of Bracknell on April 22 and a unit at the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield on April 28.

Founded in 1978, HOUSE bills itself as Australia’s largest specialty homeware retailer. It has ambitious plans to open a total of 75 stores across the UK within three years, creating 1,000 jobs.

House executive chairman and ceo Steven Lew said: “We are passionate about cooking, dining and entertaining, and our ambition is to be the ‘go-to’ destination for people who share our passion. Our expansion will be very much opportunity-led, and our strategy is to create a sustainable operation that prioritises being best-in-class over being the biggest.

“We are working with intu to bring more House stores to the UK’s best shopping destinations. intu Chapelfield’s high footfall and wide catchment area will make it the perfect location for us to reach millions more customers in the east of England.”

Rebecca Ryman, regional managing director at intu, said: “House will be a welcome addition to intu Chapelfield’s popular line-up of retailers who have all selected the centre as the ideal destination to attract new customers and flourish within the east of the UK.”

“The combination of intu’s high footfall and unique experiences are making our centres attractive to both international and national retailers as they invest in more physical space across the country.”

HOUSE has also announced plans to open at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway shopping centre in Bristol.
