The team at Harts Of Stur has taken part in UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Week by organising a staff-led clothing donation initiative to support people struggling with clothing poverty during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
The Dorset-based housewares and clothing retailer encouraged its team to donate quality clothing and footwear items from their own wardrobes over the past fortnight. The resulting collection was delivered this week to a local clothing bank, in partnership with The Fire Fighters Charity.
The move is part of the retailer’s wider commitment to supporting the full lifecycle of the products it sells. While Harts Of Stur is best known for its kitchenware and home essentials, it also stocks a wide range of clothing both in-store and online.
UK Clothing Poverty Awareness Week aims to highlight the growing issue of clothing deprivation. Recent figures show that 5.5 million adults in the UK, equivalent to around 13% of the population, cannot afford the clothing they need for everyday life. This includes basic items required for work, education, or simply leaving the house.
Wearable items donated by the Harts Of Stur team will be reused or sold, while unwearable textiles are sent for recycling into products such as industrial wipers, car upholstery, and other manufacturing materials. Funds raised through this recycling process support The Fire Fighters Charity’s work in providing health and wellbeing services for members of the UK’s fire and rescue services.
