Argos is set to more than double the number of products available through its Trusted Sellers marketplace, with plans to offer over 130,000 lines from third-party retailers and brands by the end of the year.

The retailer launched the platform in July with 40 partners and has already built its range to more than 70,000 products. The latest expansion will represent the biggest increase in Argos’s product offering in its history.

Initially concentrating on furniture, homewares and toys, Trusted Sellers is now branching out into additional categories, including health and beauty, gifting and electricals.

The marketplace allows approved independent retailers and brands to sell directly to Argos customers, with orders fulfilled by the sellers themselves. Shoppers can also continue to collect Nectar Points on their purchases.

Graham Biggart, Managing Director of Argos, said: “Argos has always been famous for offering customers amazing brands and own brands.

“The launch of Trusted Sellers enables us to complement those ranges with thousands of new lines from brands and independent businesses that mean our customers get an even wider range.”

He added that feedback from customers and sellers had been positive, with the company reviewing every marketplace partner to ensure products meet its standards.

The move comes as Argos looks to strengthen its position as a one-stop shopping destination, offering consumers a broader choice of products across home and lifestyle categories.

It also forms part of a wider transformation of the business, which includes investment in its online shopping experience, faster delivery services and Argos Pay.

Mr Biggart added: “Our ambition is simple – to make Argos the place customers can come to complete more of their shopping mission in one visit.”

The expansion follows Sainsbury’s agreement in July to sell Argos to Swift Partners for £120 million, bringing an end to its decade-long ownership of the retailer. Sainsbury’s originally acquired Argos in 2016 as part of its £1.4 billion takeover of Home Retail Group.
