Department store retailer Beales is looking for a new chief executive to replace Allan Allkins, who retires next May.
Possible internal candidates for the job are reported to include buying and merchandise director Barbara King and finance director Ken Owst.
Allkins, a former John Lewis director, has been at Beales’ helm for the last five years.
