Squire’s Garden Centres is donating hundreds of silver birch trees to local communities as part of its ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign.
Throughout September, for every plant, pack of bulbs or tree (of any variety) bought at a Squire’s garden centre, the retailer will donate 5p. The money will go towards providing silver birch trees for local councils to plant in parks and green spaces. Squire’s is working closely with local councils, who will plant the trees in February 2020.
Squire’s chairman Sarah Squire commented: “At Squire’s we strive to be very much part of the local communities in which our garden centres are located. We want to thank our customers by giving back to the local area – and what better way to do this than by providing stunning silver birch trees, that people can enjoy for years to come.
“Silver birch are native British trees that are fantastic for the environment as they can improve air and soil quality – and great for wildlife too, providing food and habitats for many birds and insects.”
Squire’s ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign started last Autumn. In September 2018 Squire’s donated 10 daffodil bulbs for every bag of daffodils purchased, which meant it was able to donate 230,000 daffodil bulbs to local councils to plant in parks and green spaces. The retailer planned to donate 150,000 bulbs – but customer response was so good that it smashed this figure.
Squire’s Garden Centres is a family-owned horticultural business which operates 16 Squire’s Garden Centres across Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire, north and west London.
