Clearance breaks records at John Lewis

John Lewis has enjoyed “an overwhelmingly positive response” to the start of its clearance offer, with customers queuing outside the shops on the first day.
Sales on that day, Monday 27, and on Tuesday 28 December beat the retailer’s previous record for a single day. The Monday saw sales of £27.8m, 54% up on the same day last year (which was a Sunday), but more significantly the figure is up 30% on the previous biggest-ever day, 27 December 2008.

Best sellers have been an Acer laptop, a Molton Brown gift set, pocket-sprung mattresses, and pillows and duvets – the last two selling at a rate of one every five and 10 seconds respectively.
