Cookware sales up 43% at John Lewis due to Black Friday promotions

Total sales for John Lewis & Partners were up 14.8% last week (to Saturday December 7) on the same week last year, as the department store group “saw a strong end” to its Black Friday event.

The retailer’s Home Buying Lead Jason Wilary-Attew said: “Total sales for the full 11 day Black Friday promotion event were up 10.2% on last year’s event, with Cyber Sunday and Monday sales up 10.9% compared to the equivalent trading days last year (25 and 26 November 2018).

“Home sales were down 2.3%. However, furniture & flooring sales were up 6.9%, along with sales of cookware, up 43% due to Black Friday promotions. Home storage products were also up 8% as customers prepare their homes for Christmas.

“Electrical and home technology sales were up 34.8%. Communications technology sales were up 36.4%, driven by tablet sales. Large electrical sales were up 18%, with customers buying refrigeration products in preparation for the festive season.’

“Fashion sales were up 12.5%, with womenswear sales up 5.2% and women’s accessories sales up 10.5% as customers shop for the party season. Menswear sales were up 11.6%, with men’s shoes up 18.7%. Beauty, wellbeing & leisure was up 17.9% as we price-matched a number of competitor promotions.”
