Today, on the morning of Black Friday November 23), Currys PC World is reporting three orders every second as shoppers head online to grab deals on a host of technology.
The electrical retailer kicked off its Black Friday sales event online last night and saw 61% of online orders being made via mobile devices compared with 46% last year – surpassing desktop as the preferred method for browsing for the first time.
Three of the top five products ordered so far have been across computing, with the Nintendo Switch Neon Red, Samsung Galaxy Tab A and LG Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED large screen TV proving to be the most popular items so far.
PC gaming has seen an uplift of 623% compared to Black Friday 2017 whilst Smart Home control has also seen a 317% surge in orders. The average online shopping basket has contained 2.08 products so far. A total of 49.5% of orders have been selected for ‘click and collect’ – again, an uplift on last year.
Dixons Carphone e-commerce director Stuart Ramage said: “We’ve already seen a high volume of orders being made with shoppers taking full advantage of the big savings on offer across a whole range of categories including computing, refrigeration and TVs. As predicted earlier this month, our customers have taken to their mobile devices to place their orders whilst on-the-go, as well as opting for ‘click and collect’ services so they can collect their purchases at their convenience.”
