Householders have sent sales of comfort foods soaring during the recent snowy weather.

According to a report on express.co.uk, Tesco has seen a 40% rise in pie sales, while demand for ready meals such as chicken tikka masala is at an all-time high: sales are also up 40% on January last year.

Apple crumble and custard sales have risen 35% at Tesco while at Asda sticky toffee pudding is up 36%.

Sales of soup have soared by 80% at Tesco and 132% at Asda.

Express.co.uk also says that shoppers are turning to hot chocolate and Horlicks for comfort, with sales up 19%, while tea sales have risen 26%.
