Honoured at the ceremony were the late Eric Blanchard, Home Hardware chairman for a quarter of a century, of Blanchard’s Home Hardware in Bideford, and the late Frank Slee of Slees Home Hardware in Braunton.

The two men’s families were each presented with an engraved decanter to commemorate their achievements. Chris and Sue Blanchard accepted the decanter on behalf of Blanchard’s and Alison and Gary Serret accepted on behalf of Slees.

Originally, in 1961, there were 10 Home Hardware founder members, all based in North Devon. Over the past 50 years the company has expanded into a nationwide business supplying over 400 stores throughout England and Wales.

“If the founder members were alive today they would be very proud of their foresight and how the company has developed,” said chairman David Adams.
