Housewares retailers are top choice for graduate employment

A recent survey of 1,500 university students who want to be in the retail sector reveals the top 10 businesses by which they would like to be employed. In order of preference they are:

Marks & Spencer; Boots; John Lewis; Tesco, Arcadia Group; Debenhams; Sainsbury’s; Next; House of Fraser; and Harrods.

Number one name Marks & Spencer is also the employer with the highest profile on campus and the best reputation for work experience.

The survey, by graduate job website targetjobs.co.uk, also shows that students wanting to work in this sector are typically female, white and doing a business-related degree.

Targetjobs.co.uk CEO Paul Sissons commented: “This annual survey tracks the popularity of employer brands on campus and it’s clear that the firms which come out at the top of the list have not only worked hard on building their profile but are now offering the right sort of package to attract the best graduates.”
