Housewares supplier Microplane has scooped a Red Dot award for the product design of its Master Series of graters.
Organised by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen at Essen in Germany, the ‘Red Dot’ is a sought-after internationally recognised seal of outstanding design quality.
The Red Dot Design Awards are divided into three categories: product design, communication design and design concept. Manufacturers and designers from 54 countries entered their products in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 category.
An independent expert panel assessed each entry based on criteria including innovation, quality, functionality and ecological compatibility.
The Master Series is a collection of stainless steel graters s available in five blade styles. Featuring walnut handles, the products are crafted in the US.
Microplane said: ‘The combination of a practical handle, a robust stainless steel frame, a non-slip foot and an ultra sharp, photo-etched stainless steel blade, has been engineered to deliver durability, flawless results and contemporary design.’
The Red Dot panel commented: “These elegant graters are based on a consistent design concept that, above all, reveals itself in high effectiveness.”
