Annual sales of electrical food preparation equipment have surpassed the £100m mark for the first time in the UK.

According to the latest GfK Retail and Technology statistics, they reached £103m between December 2009 and November 2010. And the November market soared in comparison with the same month last year, growing 50.3% to reach £12.3m.
Within this market, food processors remain the most important category, accounting for a quarter of the annual sales value and doubling its monthly sales value over November 2009.
Elsewhere, kitchen machines saw the strongest growth throughout the year – with moving annual total sales up by a third in value.
“This exceptional growth clearly shows that consumers are more comfortable buying into the premium segment of this market,” commented GfK account manager Andrew Walsh. “The soaring popularity in home cooking, thanks in part to the age of the celebrity chef, cookery programmes and fine dining, are inspiring consumers to follow suit.”
