A well-known town centre cookware retailer has announced it will be closing its doors, citing ongoing financial pressures faced by businesses across the area.

The Sands Cookware shop, located on Middlegate, has confirmed it will cease trading in the coming weeks. However, the company will continue offering a selection of cookware from its main store across the road at 16 Devonshire Street, ensuring customers can still access its products.

The business shared the following statement with customers on Facebook:

“It is with a very heavy heart that we have to inform you that our Cookshop will be closing its doors in the coming weeks, due to the continued rise in operating costs. This has been a very difficult decision, we are truly grateful for your support and loyalty over the years.

We will be relocating as much as possible into our 16 Devonshire St store. With this being said, please rest assured that we will still have a cookware department and would love to see you all in our new home.

From the 30th April we will be having a huge clearance sale, so come along and grab a bargain.”

The closure comes amid a difficult trading environment for town centre businesses, with rising energy bills, staffing costs, and other overheads continuing to place pressure on retailers.

As more businesses face similar challenges, the number of vacant units in the town centre continues to grow, contributing to a decline in footfall and raising concerns about the future of the high street.
