Weekly sales up 15.7% for John Lewis

The combination of cold weather and the last throes of the clearance sale, helped John Lewis finish the week to January 16 with sales of £85.9m, up 15.7%

David Barford, Director of Selling, Group L & S, said the department store chain’s shops had a particularly strong week with Ashford, Poole, Peterborough, Stratford and Glasgow being the stand-out performers, while sales on johnlewis.com posted a year-on-year uplift of 30.8% and double-digit percentage growth across all of the assortment areas.

Across the directorates, EHT (Electricals & Home Technology) were top of the table at 19.7% up on last year, while Home sales ended the week up 11.9% on last year, with particularly strong results from furniture.

David Barford concluded: “Our Clearance has now officially ended and exciting new lines are starting to arrive in shops and online.”
