Judges revealed for The Cake Awards

The inaugural Cake Awards have named the judges who will decide the very best British cakes.

Judging will take place on April 9 and April 10 by 14 judges who will decide the 10 category winners, to be announced at an awards ceremony held at London’s Park Lane Hotel on June 19.

The line-up of of judges includes Bruce Langlands, Director of Food at Harrods; Eric Lanlard, master pâtissier; Loic Carbonnet, Head Pastry Chef at the Lanesborough; Allan Jenkins, Editor of Observer Food Monthly; David Swann, Quality & Innovation chef at Marks & Spencer; and Wendy Miranda, Lakeland’s Customer Ambassador.

Wendy Miranda said: “Cake trends may change but the simple pleasure of making and sharing them never does. Cakes are one of life’s constants. Whether you’re celebrating something special, catching up with friends and family or simply taking a little time out, everything grinds to a halt when the cake comes out!”

Designed to celebrate the best in cake, the awards are now open to enter and comprise the categories: Tea Room Cake, Hotel Cake, Bakery Shop Cake, Wholesale Bakery Cake, Wedding Cake, Retail Christmas Cake, Supermarket Cake, Celebration/Novelty Cake, Free From Cake, Bake at Home Cake and Cake of the Year (nomination only). Only those cakes that have it all – excellent presentation, quality ingredients, recipe innovation, texture, taste and value – will triumph.
