Rug designed by Virgil Abloh exclusively for IKEA goes on sale in the UK

IKEA has announced that a highly-anticipated rug designed by Louis Vuitton’s creative director in collaboration with the Swedish homeware giant is available to buy this morning (Friday May 31).

The “KEEP OFF” slogan rug, designed by Virgil Abloh, is priced at £400 and is only available to purchase online on the IKEA website here: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/ideas/ikea-art-event-2019-hit-the-floor-1364686558753/

It is part of IKEA’s Art Event collection: a range of eight limited-edition rugs from leading designers including Chiaozza, Craig Green, Misaki Kawai, Seulgi Lee, Noah Lyon, Filip Pagowski, and Supakitch.

The retailer said: ‘The fifth annual IKEA Art Event collection takes a contemporary approach to traditional art by forming a collection of visually impactful woven artworks, versatile enough to be displayed not just on the floor, but just about anywhere in the home. From hanging the rug from your ceiling, to displaying it in a glass box, the striking pieces are designed to turn heads.’

Commenting on his design, Virgil Abloh said: “I wanted an ironic take on the traditional attitude to furnishing where the living room is just a showroom, not somewhere you sit. The parental ‘don’t ruin the furniture’ kind of thing I think has really impacted how younger people think”.

Virgil’s wider homewares range, MARKERAD, launches exclusively with IKEA later this year.
