Retail entrepreneur Theo Paphitis has voiced his support for the #ShopKind initiative, championing kindness and respect in retail environments and calling for united action against abuse and violence towards shopworkers.
As a ShopKind Champion, Mr Paphitis is promoting the initiative across his business portfolio, which includes Ryman, Robert Dyas, Boux Avenue and the London Graphic Centre, all part of the Theo Paphitis Retail Group.
The ShopKind campaign, backed by the Home Office and supported by major retailers, independents, and the shopworkers’ union Usdaw, delivers a clear message: no one should face abuse or feel unsafe at work. The initiative aims to foster a culture of positivity and mutual respect in stores and on high streets throughout the UK.
“Retail is a wonderful sector to work in, and it’s one I’ve known and loved for over 40 years,” stated Mr Paphitis in a LinkedIn post. “Our retail colleagues are at the heart of this industry, doing a fantastic job in our stores and communities. ShopKind acknowledges the vital role they play and the importance of creating supportive, respectful workplaces.”
Paphitis added that collaboration across the industry is essential to driving change: “When we all recognise the strength in kindness and respect, we build safer and more rewarding workplaces — not just for our teams, but for everyone involved in retail.”
With violence and abuse against retail staff still a pressing concern, the ShopKind campaign continues to encourage customers and businesses alike to stand together in fostering a safer, more supportive shopping environment.
